‘Walking Dream 2’ has not been exhibited in a gallery before, but it was placed in the hallway of the beautiful fictional house of the Anchor-Ferrers family, during the filming of the tv drama series Wolf.

Wolf was a six-part British television miniseries, based on the Jack Caffery novels by Mo Hayder. It was made for BBC One and BBC Wales. ‘ highly compelling – if not for the faint of heart’.

‘How green is my art?’ Welsh Group summer exhibition

Mid Wales Art Centre, Caersws, Powys, SY17 5SB 9th July - 3rd September 2023

A mixed show of paintings and sculptures by members of The Welsh Group. ‘Many responses are quite explicit because some of the artists here work with and in the natural environment, using recycled materials or responding to landscape. Other work in this show is more implicit and takes a sideways look at environmental issues’ Paul Edwards, Chair of The Welsh Group.

Pleased to be showing five Chinese ink and watercolour drawings, on large vertical sheets of paper. All the materials are biodegradable and originate from natural materials - the ink from burnt cedar cones and the paper from rice.

PAX by Maggie James

PAX

Aberystwyth Art Centre, Aberystwyth University, SY23 3DE exhibition runs till 18th June 2023

A group exhibition curated by Heledd Wyn Hardy  commemorating the centenary of Wales’ remarkable Women’s Peace Appeal of 1923-24. ‘The Women’s Peace campaign of 1923 was a truly remarkable Wales-wide effort involving almost every household, through peace activists going door-to-door, supported through county and community organisers of ‘the League’. A delegation, led by WLNU Chair Annie Hughes-Griffiths, travelled from Wales to America in March 1924 for a 2 month ‘Peace Tour’ of the States, building support through American women’s organisations involving over 60 million people. ‘

In my work PAX is reflected by the ability to walk freely and alone through a varied natural environment. Many things are occurring to enable this autonomy of action - the person is not subject to a repressive regime, is not fearful of bodily harm from a war zone, is not subject to oppressive gender restrictions… Thankfully within the UK slowly the boundaries of action as simple as walking are opening up to a diverse range of people...
The drawing was made in 2021 - during and just after lockdown -  as part of a series of works with Malaysian architect Eu Jin Lim - who was also experiencing lockdown in Kuala Lumpur. It was part of Open Books Online

The Welsh Group in Focus: Paintings,Sculpture and Bernard Mitchell’s Artist Portraits

Paintings and sculpture by members of The Welsh Group

Great to be taking part in this Welsh Group show

Bernard Mitchell has been photographing artists in Wales since 1966. His photographs of all the members of the Welsh Group will form the basis of the groups 75th Anniversary exhibition, at the wonderfully restored Y Gaer in Brecon. The photographs will accompany paintings, drawing and sculpture by existing and former members.
