About

Maggie James paints and draws landscape, linked to physical walks through a varied natural environment, often with high vantage points. Some appear dreamlike and fictional. Her studio practice draws on three years of study at the Royal College ofArt, Painting School, experience as a painter in studios in Newcastle, London and Cardiff and early study in art schools in Newcastle on Tyne and Cardiff. Currently based in Butetown Artists Studios in Cardiff, Maggie is one of the original Open Books artists and an elected member of the Welsh Group, an artists collective in Wales. Recent projects include ‘Seen and Unseen’ at BayArt, 2024 and an exhibition of 30 paintings at Found Gallery Brecon 2022. Her paintings are in private collections in the UK, China, Canada and Australia
